Which is the best interface to use with rail & co and Digitrax

There is no difference when used as interface to computer software to control layouts. Neither needs a power supply when used as a computer to command station interface.

Minor differences:

The LocoBuffer has an opto-isolator inside it, and can "remember" its Com number. The former can protect against voltage spikes (only really an issue on massive installations), the latter means you don't have to keep using the same USB socket everytime.

The PR3 has the ability to program Digitrax sound chips with new sounds, and also the option to use it as stand-alone programmer.

If not needing the PR3 sound or stand-alone capability, then the LocoBuffer is a bit smaller and tidier.
