RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted October 20, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2012 It was often alleged that Margaret Thatcher didn't like travelling by train. I have however some knowledge that she used them on at least 3 occaisions during the 11 years whe was Prime Minister. These are:- (In no particular order) 1. London to York en route to a Tory Party meeting when she unveiled a plaque on an electrification mast in York Station. 2. Kings Cross to Sandy for the opening of something for the RSPB during which she named 89001 Avocet. 3. Bradford Exchange to Kings Cross via Leeds one winter evening when snow had made the road out of Bradford impassable for the official car. She travelled in the back cab of a DMU from Bradford to Leeds before transferring to a Mk4/Class 91 set. It was alleged once in an article that she disliked train travel due to some sort of incident on a compartment stock train in Kent when she was a young Industrial Chemist before she married the boss's son who owned a Rolls. Any comments/further information would be welcome. Jamie
