Perhaps DEFRA or the Forestry Commission should have paid less attention to opening/developing/profiting from huge swathes of softwoods and spent a few bob growing our own saplings..... It's not as though you need greenhouses, cell tissue culture, bioengineering and a multiplicity of degree qualified scientists to grow ash saplings............. The recipe is simple enough, take ash seed, plant in ground, wait 3 or 4 years then transplant. Oh, sorry! Not glamorous enough? Doesn't attract Government funding?
