Railway safety

Recommended Posts

Carrying on in a similar vein to the locked thread re the Allerton depot incident which I won't comment on, maybe those giving railway safety talks in schools should use the youTube video of the poor chap in India getting electrocuted on top of a train to show exactly what happens.

As for stupid things people do, when I was a driver I happened to see kids spraying graffitti on the live third rail near Chiswick station! Quite how they escaped without serious injury is beyond me.

We were always taught to assume electrical equipment was live unless told otherwise.

A lot of the things we are told not to do you would get away with 99 times in 100 or even 999 in every 1000. That's quite rightly not good enough to be considered safe in a work environment. People who spray graffiti onto live rails don't have quite the same approach to risk assessment.
