Here are some pictures of my L1 mods:

The MX645 decoder.  The stay alive caps are wrapped in yellow tape:

Thanks for these really helpful pics Alan. I am going to have to find a source for those thin speakers as I am in western Canada & the Loksound decoders come from the UK with a rather large round speaker as standard. I'm told that Iphone speakers work well.

Decoders with the L1 project loaded and the type of speaker you require can be found here. VAT at 20% will be deducted from the prices shown for overseas

http://digitrains.co.uk/ecommerce/search/ls10x15-speaker-10x15-8ohms.aspx  The enclosure on the sugar cube speaker is 'soft glued' with a foam gasket. Just remove the enclosure to arrive at the 'flat speaker'.
