"Big E" model train show

Hi folks,

Anyone out here in RMWeb land planning on attending the "Big E" model train show in Springfield, MA on the 26th?  (I won't be there the 27th)  I'm going to be there with my 8 year old son, and thought it might be fun to put faces to names/avatars.

We'll be based at the Northeast N trak layout, but I'm sure we'll be spending time walking around and seeing other things.  Might make sense to pick a place/time and try to congregate, as we'll never find each other otherwise.

If you're not familiar with this show.  Let me throw out some numbers:

- Over 21,000 attendees (announced attendance at the last show I went to)  that's not a typo, 21 THOUSAND attendees in 2 days

- Floor space for exhibits/vendors: 300,000+ sq feet in 4 buildings.  (over 7 ACRES)

Mike,

Does the event have a website?

I'm interested to learn more about "your" Northeast N Trak layout;  doubtful I'll be able to attend Springfield meet but thanks for letting us know...

Best, Pete.

Show Website:

http://www.railroadhobbyshow.com/http://www.railroadhobbyshow.com/  To get a sense of the size, click on "who's who" and select "floor plan", and download the pdf.

The ntrak link is here.  http://www.northeastntrak.org/  Every year we hold "Winterfest" at the springfield show, where we get multiple N trak groups from the northeast together and hold a mini-convention.  Big layout, model contests, and a banquet for attendees.

I've found an old photo of my module on that site at:

http://www.northeastntrak.org/photos/large.php?id=wood02.jpg&section=photos&title=Mike%20Boucher%20-%20Fall%20in%20New%20England.

Unfortunately, the module is pretty beat up as my son, when he was 4 or 5, decided to take matchbox cars and drive down the roads.  He then decided to pull most of the trees off as they got in his way, and then he pretty much ran over the wood fencing.  So, the module needs pretty much total re-scenicing.

The module is based on part of the B&M mainline in Newton NH, selectively compressed.  http://maps.google.com/maps?q=newton,+nh&hl=en&ll=42.88686,-71.052575&spn=0.004567,0.010375&sll=42.036922,-71.683501&sspn=2.370278,5.31189&hnear=Newton,+Rockingham,+New+Hampshire&t=h&z=17  The wooden bridge (just out of view on the L side of the module) is a model of the Pond St bridge.

I've also recovered a photo of it from the Geocities archive:

You can see some of the stone walls (to the left of the station, and just "above" the station roof).  And that crossbuck is AWOL as well.

That station is scratchbuilt in styrene, based off the Grateful Dead's "Terrapin Station" album cover.  Nice that they used the same paint scheme the B&M used!  Now If I could only find N scale dancing turtles  :biggrin_mini2:

When I start working on restoration, I'll post stuff to RMWeb...

One of this winter's projects is to get the module up to display standards again.
