Tase
I'm looking to put some cosmetic disc pads on my PCA wagons but I don't know if they need to go on all four wheels or just two? I've looked at a couple of pictures on the net but can't quite make them out! I presume that all air-braked wagons would have the same brake disc configuration? Thanks in advance. T. Pugsley
I presume that all air-braked wagons would have the same brake disc configuration? You should never presume! There were differences, some air-braked wagons had two discs per vehicle on opposing corners, others had a disc per wheel. Edit - I feel I should clarify that not all air braked wagons were fitted with discs, there were also plenty that were tread braked. This PCA appears to have discs on all wheels: http://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/UKRailRollingstock/P-Tops-codes/PCA-powder-carriers/16792684_r4GCdD#!i=1266975069&k=6chdt2G&lb=1&s=A HTH
Tase
Martin, Thank you for your response and the link to the pictures. The level of detail of those pictures was just what I was after. Thanks again, it's much appreciated.
YesTor
I have been wondering about this too and looking at many photos of various prototypes but most are quite difficult to tell where or how the disc configuration is. For example, looking at pics of JNA's and most wagon types appear as such, where it actually seems to be impossible to make out any such discs, or are they of a different style...? http://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/UKRailRollingstock/J-/JNA-29xxx-Network-Rail-Falcon/16872460_MQWdXJ#!i=1274202066&k=rKxZCJS&lb=1&s=A
brian daniels
JNA's have brake blocks that push onto the insides of the wheel treads, 4 blocks per bogie.
