Guest stuartp
Neatly and tidily if these photos are anything to go by. Apart from a bit of smoke blackening above the door there doesn't apear to be any evidence of the usual piles of ash and detritus lying about(even allowing for the snow). They could be out of shot but other photos I've seen of this particular distillery (without snow) suggest the distillery yard was well kept. I've never found any other photos of distillery sheds so I don't know if Dailuaine was typical or not. http://www.gnsra.org.uk/gnsra_gallery_locomotives51.htm http://www.railbrit.co.uk/location.php?loc=Dailuaine
Lochty no more
I can`t comment on steam loco`s ( before my time ) but diesel shunters were serviced in house ( and to a high standard )at Cameronbridge distillery where I worked, both diesel shunters ended up in preservation - one to the SRPS ( a Ruston & Hornsby 88 ) the othet to the Deeside railway, Diagio were smpathetic to railway preservation society`s and have a long history of donating to preservation society`s over many years (we have two 20 ton Grain vans at the KFRPS ) most of there redundant railway equipment ended up in preservation - very little got scrapped ( and hats off to them for behaving in this way ) dont get me wrong they worked the publicity side of this to the max, but heh-ho we have benifited as preservation society`s as a result of there generosity.
