CraigZ
A couple of friends and I made the three hour trip to Roanoke, VA on 2 February. This was a delightful surprise. The #41 belongs to the Roanoke chapter of the National Railway HIstorical Society. It was running, but not moving under its own power and being pushed along by a pair of NS SD40-2s which you can also hear - turbo whine. The crew serenaded us with running the throttle up and down...before I had the sense to take out my phone and record it. But I did get this nice idling clip. By the way the video is not sideways when it plays...
trisonic
When was the build year of that, Craig, any idea? Does the Museum still exist at the old Roanoke Station? I smashed my head on a GG1 there in the early nineties...... Best, Pete.

Built August 1959...this one was officially 'retired' in 1964 but was actually sold to the N&W subsidiary Chesapeake & Western where it ran for years. The museum is very much still there...most things are now under cover and there's some sort of indoor exhibit space.
davknigh
If you like the sound of Alco/MLW engines you could do worse than check out the Ontario Southland Railway. Ex-CP RS18us & RS23s that get regular use along with vintage GMD locos as well. http://www.osrinc.ca/main1.htm Cheers, David
