Multiple identity account 2
What diameter wire should I use for handrails on locos and coaches (Class 37, 47 and 90: BR Mk 1 and 2 coaches)? And should I use soft or hard wire? The Hornby/Lima/Vitrains Class 37 comes with moulded door handrails. If I were to replace them (it would be a daunting task) because of their positioning. Q: Would it be feasible to neatly cut out the doors to make the handrails easier to access and then re-fit them and replace the doors with either scratchbuilt ones of 3D printed ones? Jeremiah. 37114
I use 0.45mm and 0.33mm brass wire dependant on the size of the actual handrail, the brass wire is reasonably robust and on the harder side although I do use the softer wire stripped out of freezer tags for some small handrails. As for the 37 doors handrails, I definitely wouldn't be cutting doors out, I am not convinced they would give you any better access to the hand rails. Multiple identity account 2
Thanks 37114. Ummm, just to add to your last comment, by access I meant allowing me more space to actually get the tweezers and handrails in. If replacing them is possible without hacking so much then I'll give it a go.
