JohnH
I'm just re-numbering some Bachmann VVV vans with Modelmasters transfers (sheet 4754 - dia 1/208 Vans) Amonst the complete TOPS panels are 2 for 12T VXV's - numbers B757865 & B770297. After a quick trawl through my own library and the internet I can't find any photos or information about 'VXV' vans. Can anyone shed more light on VXV vans? Many thanks for any help. Fat Controller
I thought this code was used for former Blue Spot fish vans in 'Sundries' traffic, as opposed to those that became SPVs (pre-TOPS) for Rail Express Parcels traffic. Certainly, I saw some thus coded in the Bristol area in 1975, as I re-lettered a Wrenn 'Blue Spot' accordingly.
JohnH
Thanks for the reply Brian. I'm a bit confused that transfers for the former 'Blue Spot' vans were included in a sheet for 'dia 1/208 vans'... Has anyone got any photos of a TOPS lettered VXV? It might be that the Modelmaster transfers were based on photos of mis-coded 1/208 vans. When TOPS codes were initially applied, this was not uncommon. One well known example was of the early air-braked vans, which seemed to receive either VAA or VBA codes; another was of some 'Clayliner'-pool opens, which should have been coded OWV, but carried 'UCV', the TOPS-code for the end-door wagon. One of the most curious I saw was when being paid to record wagon numbers for British Steel; it was a 1/108 mineral numbered xDMxxxxxxM (i.e. an ex-coaching stock number...) AberdeenBill
Hi all, I agree with Brian that the code VXV was applied to ex-blue-spot fish vans. I saw one or two painted bauxite, but no photos or numbers recorded alas. Bill
