spud
Hi, I am appealing on here for help, I am certain somebody on here will know the answer!!! I am struggling to find any details of allocations of class 08's, particularly in the early '60s I'm looking for any of the class that would have been allocated to Newport Ebbw Junction or nearby ( south Wales) from 1960 - 1964 and which would have been in plain BR green livery, no wasp ends !!!! If anybody knows of any I would be most grateful thanks in advance Simon

andytrains
Simon. I only have the 1959 loco shed book which shows none allocated to Newport Ebbw Junc, (86A), however the following were allocated to Newport Pill, (86B):- D3807 - D3818 inclusive. There are a couple of photos of 08's, on Pill shed in the early 1950's on quietwomansrow.com/steam-in-pill-sheds/4561122689 They do not show the numbers but are in either green or black without yellow/black ends. ttp://brdatabase.info/sites.php?page=depots&subpage=locos&id=377 shows more 08's allocated there that were then transferred to Ebbw Junc. Hope this helps. Andy.
br2975
As of 9th. February, 1963 the allocations of standard shunters in the Newport area were as follows. . Newport, Ebbw Jct. 86A - D3807-21, 4000/02/11/12, 4170-85 Severn Tunnel Jct. 86E - D3102/03/04/88/89/90 . As for livery variations, I couldn't say. . Try searching on Flickr by inserting the loco number, with and without the 'D' . If using a Bachmann shunter as a base, be aware that they have a habit of mixing and matching details with incorrect numbers e.g. pressed steel bonnet doors, strap hinges, wooden cab doors, steel cab doors and exhauster boxes. . br2975
A photo exists on t'interweb somewhere of D3365 & D3596 side by side at Cardiff Cathays shed on 12/08/63. . D3365 is in green, with wasp stripes, wheres D3596 is in green with no wasp stripes - at least not on the cab end. As the photo is monochrome it could be black, but as D3260-97 and D3329-4192 were all delivered in green I doubt the loco is painted black. . Hope this helps. .
