Earlswood Nob
G'day all Can anyone tell me the wheelbase spacing and wheel size of the Bachmann Jinty. I am thinking of using the chassis in a scratch built body and wonder if it will fit, and how does it perform? Thanks for any replies. CullingworthGNR
The Pannier chassis is an excellent performer, built to more or less exactly the same design. Needs a little bit of weight in the bodyshell to make it really smooth though - the Bachmann body having this built in. Thanks and good luck.
Silver Sidelines
Hello Just to remind ourselves I have put couple of pictures on Flickr http://flic.kr/p/eaiUF1 http://flic.kr/p/eade1B Using my scale rule I make the wheels over 18mm perhaps 18.25mm Wheel centres from beneath the cab are, 34mm and 32mm making 66mm in total. These are spot on with my FJ Roche drawing which has the wheels 4'-7" (14 spoke) and then centres 8'-6" and 8'-0". Hope this helps Regards Ray
Earlswood Nob
Afternoon all Thanks for the replies. I wanted to check that I guessed the wheelbase correctly, and the wheels will suit the project. Earlswood Nob
34theletterbetweenB&D
...how does it perform?... Pretty sweetly. it has the real asset of a sprung centre axle to aid pick up reliability. If you have any bumps or gradient transitions on the layout, this may be given a little more travel to good effect.

rodshaw
In terms of running, my Bachmann Jinty is excellent, very nearly as good as the Class 08. I have no trouble with it over dead frog points (that is, since I adjusted the pickups so they were actually touching the wheels, which they weren't straight out of the box, and loosened off the keeper plate fixing screw slightly). Regards Ray Ray Fair enough. Roche's drawings are not noted for being 100% accurate. The livery details are suspect on this one too. The wheelbase is correct though.
