Denton - Country Station & Yard, N Gauge

I have a day off at home and thought I'd dust off my small N gauge layout and take a few photos.

This layout was purchased online, therefore I did not build it myself, but I always fancied a small, detailed N gauge layout that would fit in my apartment and not get in the way.

Denton is a small country terminus station and yard, loosely based in Scotland in the mid-80s to early 90s given the majority of the locos I own, but I will be exercising 'flexibility' given the plethora of N gauge releases which are coming along in the next few months.

Most of my locomotives are weathered and detailed by Mercig Studios or CJM models. My current fleet includes a single Class 08, a Class 24, a Class 26 with two more coming soon; and six Class 47s in various liveries. There is also a HST, although the latter is pretty unlikely to see service on the line to Denton.

Let's start with a few photos taken today, recreating a hot summer day in the mid 80s. Birds singing, the smell of cut grass in the air, resident yard shunter 08710 complete with Haymarket motif sitting idle in a siding, while Crewe-based 47423 terminates and runs around its train on a local service in place of a DMU.

I will try to post plenty more photos over the coming weeks, with a variation of locos and stock.

Thanks guys.  had seen that HST story before, but it was nice to read again. I'm sure I'll find an excuse for a HST appearance before long.

After 47423's visit at lunchtime, the early evening service had different traction in the form of 26038.

I seem to have a soft spot for N gauge BLT's recently!

Yours is a really nice little layout, I should have started off my N gauge modelling with something like this, not diving straight in at the deep end with a larger layout!

  • 2 weeks later...

A quick skip forward to a summer's evening in late July 1990, and the first appearance of the new Parcels livery on recently ex-works 47569 'The Gloucestershire Regiment' attracts some interest from the bridge.
