RMweb Premium OnTheBranchline Posted May 20, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 20, 2013 I'm assuming that there were no particular GWR loco types that would be on empty stock workings (except for the big express engines of course). Or would I be wrong?

Or would I be wrong? Simply use whatever happens to be diagrammed to the job, which depends on time, place, loco availability, next or previous working of loco and so on. So normally any relevant passenger or mixed traffic type with freight engines only appearing at holiday peak times when other locos are in short supply. For the ultimate a 'King' or a 'Castle' working tender first on empty stock between Paddington and Old Oak Common or vice versa (and you might well have found the same on the Kingswear branch at times?). Coach bogie
There is a published shot of 6000 on empty stock at Wellington hauling a train of diners (including TWO full artic diner sets) down to Laira for the summer season. Mike Wiltshire
RMweb Gold unravelled Posted May 21, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 21, 2013 I remember seeing a 28xx (or similar 2-8-0) bringing something like 20 coaches through Basingstoke off the Reading branch. The tail was certainly still on the branch while the loco stopped to take on water in the station. Sometime around 1963. Dave
