ASW "Black Adder" POA

Ian,

.

Allied Steel & Wire went into liquidation in 2002; and the two Cardiff sites, Tremorfa steelworks and the Cardiff Rod Mill eventually passed on to Celsa (UK).

.

On 17/07/2002 the following POA scrap carriers TIPH4561/4575/5219, RLS5222/5231 and EWS SSA 470109 were parked on the 'south running road' at Tremorfa..

.

That was the last time I saw any of the "ASW" POA wagons in use there.

.

By July 2004 three (?) were lying at Tidal Sidings, reportedly purchased by Celsa for internal use, and waiting to be renumbered - this never materialised and they were disposed of. I don't know if they were intended for use as internal scrap carriers - doubtful as Celsa never reintroduced the internal movement of scrap metal OR they could have been earmarked for rebuilding into billet carriers to the 16" mill.

.

The photo shows one of these wagons at Tidal in 2004.

.

As for withdrawal and disposal of the POA wagons it must be remebered that there were several different designs and different owners.

.
