Redhill (SR) signalboxes

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me when the two boxes at Redhill were built and later superseded by Three Bridges?

"A" box at the north end of the station is fairly typical of SR 1930s style, but "B" box at the south is much older. But I'd like dates for both and when they were taken out of service for captions for a book, specifically:

Also, can anyone tell me if this is a 2-EPB or a 4-EPB (or something else!)?

Many thanks,

John

I know Merstham box was in use til early 1983 when taken over by Redhill "A" box. Three Bridges Signalling Centre opened in (I think) 1985, rendering both Redhill "A" and "B" boxes redundant. "B" box is a South Eastern Railway design but the ugly brick base was apparently added during the war. As for demolition, I would have thought soon after they were taken out of use, but an exact date would be a guess, sorry.

As to the picture, the body profile, periscopes and stencil headcode would make me think 4SUB?

Pete.
