RMweb Premium OnTheBranchline Posted June 6, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 6, 2013 This is my first attempt at a layout as an adult, after getting back into the hobby just over a year ago. The track plan is pretty simple; in the future, I will add some sidings in the middle. I probably won't do anything drastic to the layout until I move into my own place. So, it's probably more of a 'train-set' at this time than a proper 'layout'. But we all must start somewhere. The layout is not meant to be for a specific time period but more as a tableau of typical GWR activity (or as typical as the GWR could get at times). The big bend (the one with the box at the end) is a bit of a trouble maker because the plywood is warped up slightly and then you really find out how much a loco can pull up a gradient (fun fact: Bachmann Collett Goods can't pull 4 coaches up a gradient). The Layout: Collett Goods 3205 heads the local milk empties train Collett Goods 3205 shunts the empties into the siding Pannier 5764 leads the morning local goods working Pannier 5764 passes the camera with its load Heavy Freight 3803 is called at the last minute to pull a holiday special Heavy Freight 3803 heads the holiday special up towards the big bend Mogul 4317 pulls out of the siding with a train of coal empties Mogul 4317 around the bend with its train If anyone is curious, the 4317 Mogul is for sale. Feel free to give praise/simply comment/constructive criticism/nit pick as your rivet counter duty calls you to do, I won't be offended either way. And yes, that is a snooker table that the layout is on top of (or as Jeremy Clarkson would say "drunk men playing billiards"). The North American HO stock/box was a gift from a distant elderly family member and I don't really plan to use it (it hasn't been used in 20 years anyway). artizen
Are you planning to put the plywood on a more substantial footing to stop it warping further?

kandc_au
OTB, A name would be good...Yours that is! A lot of us don't know peoples names, and it helps us address replies. I think what Ian was suggesting, was a frame work for the ply. I would hint sooner rather than later....even if it is just 2x1 pine. Won't take up much more room if the layout is stored on edge, but will help maintain a good flat foundation. Khris
