edcayton
We have now got at least four classes of emu on the ecml. Can any of the different classes be coupled together to work in multiple? Ed
andyman7
Nope , it's all a bit of a minefield these days. I'm sure someone will be along to provide definitive answers but 315s, 317s, 365s and 377s won't work with each other. The problem is not so much the physical coupling (although modern stock might have Tightlocks or Dellners so even that isn't a given); it's to do with the need for multiple units to talk to each other to allow through control. Everything new is software controlled which means it won't work with old (non-software) controlled stock and every new build has some different iteration of the software. cbeagleowner
Spoke to a mate who works with FCC on the GN mainline. He said the below. We only operate units with like for like but I know for a fact 317s and 321s would work together ok. We used to run 317/322s together. But for emergency recovery all units will work together. 365s have a switch that configures the connections to allow working together with 313/317/321 but has a negative affect on door control where the hustle alarm will run all the time. Hope that answers!
LNERGE
This happened a couple of years back.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/32297024@N08/5512161825/in/set-72157628467422241 http://www.flickr.com/photos/32297024@N08/5512157869/in/set-72157628467422241/ The 313 failed between Hatfield and Welwyn. I was on the 365 and we were stopped in rear then called on, running over dets as we approached. As i understand it we were driven from the 313 but there was some issue with the doors and being able to operate them between units. Edit to add.. It was a lot more successful than this... http://www.flickr.com/photos/32297024@N08/6957049898/in/set-72157628467422241/
