Going back to moving part assembled cars & parts, The Vauxhall cavalier MkII  was assembled in Luton for 6 years from 1981 but the body panels that were unique to the estate version were imported from Holden in Australia

 

Ah, that explains what dad meant about his "B" plate Cavalier estate having some Australian provenance.  Australia had a version of the Cavalier called the Camira and, come to think of it, I don't think I've seen one that wasn't an estate.  Mind you, Aussies didn't regard them as "real" cars and so the poor things all led brutally hard lives as they were treated with contempt.  I don't think I've seen any, estate or not, for going on ten years.
