Dorrigo Branch Line

Here is four photos taken on the remains of the Glenreagh-Dorrigo Branch Line in October 2012.

First we have Ulong Station building slowly being consumed by the undergrowth. This area of Australia gets a very high rainfall so the vegetation grows quite quickly.

The other three show a 'level crossing' near to Dorrigo.

First the Level crossing sign, then looking towards Dorrigo and looking towards Glenreagh.

Some may say 'isn't this a preserved railway?' well do these photos look like preservation to you?

The GMR or Glenreagh Mountain Railway has recently received their accreditation to allow limited operation. They are mainly based at Lowanna Station which is the next station towards Glenreagh from Ulong.

The railway is on the north coast of NSW and I'd love to be able to ride through the gorgeous country side as a lot of it is in a rainforest. They have a Beyer Peacock 0-6-0 No. 1919 and a CPH Railmotor as motive power.

There is of course a huge collection of motive power at the Dorrigo end which belongs to one man, bought for him by his wealthy friends. He has promised the town of Dorrigo that every year the line will open, but it never has. There is a sign on the gate which reads,"Museum opening soon". I'm in my mid 50's and that sign read the same thing when I was a teenager.
