DelawareAndHudson
Was driving through the yard after lunch and spotted the Southern painted Heritage Unit, a new Operation Lifesaver painted unit, and a Department of Defense caboose. Pretty lucky afternoon. I have now spotted 12 of the 20 Heritage Units. Haven't been able to get pictures of all, but I've seen them with my own two eyes. 8 more to go although I don't expect I'll catch the blue N&W unit without a trip to Virginia and West Virginia. That one rarely leaves that region. Jason
trisonic
Nice! Is the New Jersey Central in Royal Blue and Tangerine back in service yet? Best, Pete.
DelawareAndHudson
I assume the Jersey Central is in service. The Heritage Units site reports it traveling from PA through OH and WV over the past two days. That is one I have not managed to catch. Yet. 298
That's a great site....! I'd heard the Southern Unit had been to WA recently, and sure enough it's movements are on there. I've also learnt that the Coast Starlight is late again...
trisonic
You guys have a link to that site???????? I haven't seen any of them - yet! Best, Pete.
DelawareAndHudson
Here you go Pete. https://www.heritageunits.com/ It's a useful site. Depending on my schedule with work and family stuff, I pay more attention some weeks than others. I've used it to catch 3-4 by following their progress and timing lunch breaks or errands at times that just happen to put me in the right place at the right time. The Southern unit today was just pure luck. Jason
DelawareAndHudson
I was rolling through the yard the on Saturday and caught the Southern unit again. I had seen it Thursday or Friday after my first sighting on Wednesday. On Saturday, it was on the track closest to the employee parking lot. I didn't want to push things too much so I parked across the street and briefly walked into the parking lot, took a couple quick shots, and headed right back to my van. The view was slightly obstructed by a parked car but I just wanted to have another shot of the engine. As I was sitting in my car, an NS employee rolled up in a company vehicle. My first thought was "oh crap, not this again" but much to my surprise, the guy appeared genuinely excited that people like his company enough to take pictures of their locomotives. Five minutes later, I was receiving an escort onto the property to get some better shots from the other side. Unfortunately, the sun wasn't in the best spot but I wasn't going to complain. It's pretty rare in my experience to be invited onto the property so I was pretty happy. So, here's another shot of 8099. Some bonus standard cab units. GP60 7120, rebuilt SD40-2 3271 (note the new cab), and B32-8 3566. These B32's probably don't have a lot of time left. NS has already donated one to a museum. Adrian Wintle
These B32's probably don't have a lot of time left. NS has already donated one to a museum. I think the latest RailPace said all the rest were up for sale. Adrian
