musky
Hi All. I need some advise on improving the Hornby 14xx. .I'v just read the ariticle in the Railway Modeller and was wondering if this would be a good one for someone who has never attempted a chassis replacement before.Your thoughts on this would be much apprecated. Rail-Online
Bill, Lots of us have not got the Railway Modeller article so what did it say? I fitted a Perceverance chassis to an Airfix 14xx many years ago and it was an easy job. Nowadays I would use the High Level kit which is very well engineered. br2975
The RM article / loco to which 'musky' refers originates from 'The Chronicles of Penhydd' - an excellent website and source of inspiration. http://thechroniclesofpenhydd.blogspot.co.uk/ . There was also a two part article in the very early issues of MRJ where Iain Rice described the upgrade of an Airfix 14XX using one of Rod Neeps chassis kits. . I believe Mr. Rice's whitemetal detailing kits for the 14XX may be available from Dave Cleall at Mainly Trains. . All of the above came from within my ageing 'bonce' so my need correcting ! . buffalo
The search box at the top right of every page provides a useful but, it appears, rarely used function. Just type '14XX' into it and select 'Google Site Search'. There are many examples of 14XX conversions by RMweb members. Nick
