mossdp
Some of the earlier batches of Heljan class 47s had part of the paint in the wrong shade and a new body was supplied to purchaser. I have ScotRail 47 recently taken out of its box for the first time in many years to check for well known metal fatigue with an extra body but the thing is I cannot recall whether I changed the incorrect colour body for the correct one. One body has a dark upper part of the body while the other one has a lighter one. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me which is the correct shade. I thought it would be easy– just look at some photos of the real thing, but I could not tell from the photos as some of the real thing looked darker eg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b0/47702_Scotrail_livery.jpg and some lighter eg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3731/8960095186_0d06b3855f_z.jpg.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POSTCARD-Scotrail-No-47715-Haymarket-/290947545577?nma=true&si=XrSqUaBg6ASK2kexfbhGv1%252Fy0DE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Many thanks. Flood
The lighter version is the correct one. The first photo you've referenced has poor colour definition anyway, as seen by the shade that the yellow has taken. See also my photo referenced below: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/429-scottish-region-photos-1980s/?p=762070 If you look closely you can distinguish between the body colour and the black window surrounds.
