RMweb Gold mcowgill Posted September 17, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2013 Here are a few from my collection. Lets start with a couple of these as there's nothing better than a well fettled Clacton unit! 309 612 coming off the Harwich branch at Manningtree, October 1987 309 601 at Norwich during the short period they ventured further north after the GEML electrification was completed, May 1989 31013 stood outside Stratford Repair Shop, April 1979 03158, Norwich Thorpe station pilot, February 1981 47583 'County of Hertfordshire' in the late 1981 variant of it royal wedding livery, leaving Norwich, October 1981 Old Liverpool Street, 47539 waiting to depart, it had been transferred to Stratford but not yet attacked by the tin of grey paint. March 1982 47584 'County of Suffolk running in to Ipswich with a down train, July 1983. My notes say 31253(?), Norwich Thorpe Junction box, March 1982 90031 coupling up to a delayed Norwich service at Ipswich. Does anyone know of an earlier use of a class 90 on a GEML scheduled passenger train? 11th February 1992 Loadhaul 56045 runs down from Westerfield towards East Suffolk Junction with 4E20 Felixstowe to Wilton, 17th August 1995 I'll see if I can find a few more. Enjoy! Martin

NXEA!
Wow! excellent mate thankyou, that helps alot indeed, to me living right next to the GEML they just seemed to dissappear over night! but then i seem to spend most of my time at work very much once in a blue moon i see a single 153 heading toward Colchester but i guess this is just a transfer or similar as its empty and has no interior lighting. Thanks for clearing that up for me it makes sense now when i think about because whenever i stepped on one at Witham it was always standing room only!! Cheers for that, All the best Glenn Not a problem mate, glad I could help!
Suzie
Lovely jubbly!!! why did they change the connecting doors on these units??? anyone?? and what happened to the 170's round witham way?????????? The Old Dalby 309s (Sharon and Tracy) lost their intermediate trailers and had a lot of extra equipment added to the cab that went across the gangway, so I guess they had to lose the end doors on the cabs.

Baby Deltic
308137 stands in platform 5 at Colchester, circa 1982. A 312 stands on platform 4, and behind it a class 105 is just in shot, probably doing a St Botolphs to Sudbury service.

Baby Deltic
Sorry about the awful quality. I used some crap photo developers back in the day: 47574, at the time named Lloyds List, stands at Colchester on a Norwich service, in about 1984/5.

RMweb Premium 47137 Posted September 18, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) Looks like a model! Thank you! Never noticed but have got to agree ... funny lighting I guess. Somehow suggests an idea for a new thread - "photos of prototypes that look like models" would be nice. Here is a 66954 rearranging one of the three TTAs at Ipswich stabling point this afternoon, the viewpoint is intended to make it look as much like a model as I could manage. Even the track looks 00 :-). Taken from the new foot bridge. - Richard. (Edited to add the picture) Edited September 18, 2013 by 47137
