Rob Hayes
Hi all I have just got myself a digitrains A4 sound and an A3 sound loaded on MX648R with a sugarcube on each. They sound incredible. But just to suit my tastes I really want to know what the CV numbers are to turn the volume up and down for functions 2,3,4, independently of the overall volume. I have read the manual several times but I am not finding what I need and would like some help If anyone knows How or if this can be done. I have put the A4 in my mallard I am working on getting up to NRM looks. and the A3 sound has gone into one of the new V2 Green Arrows from Bachmann as I figured it would sound close enough to a v2, Lovely sounds the control response is fabulous too, A great service from digitrains, The V2 and A3 sound were ordered yesterday morning and arrived this morning, The A4 sound was next day too. I highly recommend them and the sounds they sell. Fantastic. Cheers Rob

pauliebanger
Rob, I created and continue to update to the A3 and A4 sound projects for Digitrains exclusively, so I'm pleased you like the sounds and value the controllability. Changing the volume of any sound on any ZIMO sound decoder is simplicity itself, something that some other makes can only dream of. There's no guesswork, no need to know what a sound slot is or what they are for. No need to hope the sound author has used the standard assignments. None of this matters. ZIMO allocates a 'volume' CV to each F Key. So if you know what F key is currently controlling the sound of which you wish to vary the volume (and you know the correct CV) you can change the value of the CV in the range 1-255, higher numbers greater volume. F2 is CV517F3 is CV520F4 is CV523 You will find that the whistles are loaded at full volume by default. Good luck Paul
Rob Hayes
Hi Paul I was hoping I might encounter you on here. I have spoken to you before ages ago. Yes the sound chips are wonderful and far exceed many others I've heard. I am using a single sugar cube and the sound is magnificent but the whistles are too loud for me on the A3 which works beautifully as a V2. The A4 whistle sounds raspy but then I know some did and they all sound different. I just was not sure if it was too loud for the sugar cube. The only thing I would like on the A4 is more whistles and a more over the top ear splitting drain cock. I am dabbling and getting into sound programming myself I have a lot to Learn. But as musician it appeals to me. Especially as I have specialist studio gear to help me get sounds that work. I was thinking of getting a lokprogrammer but I think I would now like to go zimo and learn how to use their software though I'm told its hard going I think your doing amazing work with these sounds Paul. I love how you can coast the steamers on one speed step to a stop. And the multi drive / heavy light steam are amazing. As is the performance and slow smooth running that is far better than even a loksound chip. Remarkable and totally addictive I have not stopped running mallard and green arrow all day. I am going to do a video review on them soon it will be favourable . Cheers and thanks for bringing my locos to life in a very believable way. Rob Hayes
Oh and thanks very much for the CV numbers there is as far as I can see no mention of that in the manual is there cvs for the other function keys ? , sorry to be a PITTA. But I fancy having a play around. It would be good to assign the auto/ random sounds to the function keys that are reserved for smoke gens as I won't be using them. Not on these locos there are certain ones I wouldn't want to risk melting. Cheers Rob

Also, try using F17 whlst driving off, the cylinder clearing will continue, but will be modulated by the chuffs (like on a real loco moving with cocks open), giving a sort of 'wet chuff'. Switch F17 off and normal chuffing will take over. The A3 whistles are a bit harsh, but there aren't many new ones about to record! The sugar cubes will struggle a little with what are quite 'saturated' samples, turning them down would be a smart move. (or put an ABS 230 in the tender - that's what I have in Brown Jack on my demos). With ZIMO you can put any sound already on the decoder onto any F key, O - 28. Use the CV300 procedure, in the manual. Paul
