Pete 75C
I saw an advert recently for some rather small 12v 1rpm electric motors. Can't remember if it was a magazine ad, here on the forum etc... Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. Pete.
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted November 10, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2013 Small motors turn fast. So there must be some sort of gearbox with it.
Pete 75C
Small motors turn fast. So there must be some sort of gearbox with it. Quite possibly - I genuinely can't remember. The ad was recent and was model railway-specific in the text. I'll have to have a look on ebay to see if it was there.
Crosland
Perhaps the Expo turntable motorizing kit, but that isn't 12V. Look at the motor and gearboxes from Rapid Electronics for similar items at much lower prices. Andrew
Robin2
Google "pololu gearmotor". I'm sure other brands are available. You could also control the speed easily with an Arduino microprocessor and an Arduino motor shield. ...R
Pete 75C
Thanks to all for the replies. I simply cannot remember where the original ad was. There are several small 12v geared motors ranging from 1 - 7rpm available direct from China on ebay. Cheap as chips too. It's not for anything like a turntable and there will be almost zero load on the motor so I reckon that's the best bet. Incidentally, looking at some of the UK based electronics suppliers, similar motors are quoted as 2-3 weeks delivery, so it looks like you give them your order, and they then order the motor from the far east anyway! Ohmisterporter
Not only do they order them from the Far East, the Asian supplier sends them directly to your address. For anyone looking to start up an import business this is the way to go. We had some non railway related items sent to us like this.
