Whilst keeping in touch with what’s happening in the photography world via Dpreview.com they’ve drawn attention to this modeller/ photographers work.

OK he models in 1/24th scale and it’s predominantly automotive work but check out image 5 in the link for some railway (Railroad) content.

Some stunning work with more photos of his imaginary town “Elgin Park” at:

I don’t think it’s been linked to before on RMweb.

What do you think?

I've seen his work before but it's good to find it here too.  Note that he uses a simple point-and-shoot compact.  It's very good for this sort of thing, as he can get a wide angle of view and great depth of field at a reasonable aperture setting.  For example, a compact with a 5mm focal length lens set to f/5.6 gives the same depth of field as a 35mm SLR with a 28mm lens set to f/32 - a rather impractical aperture!  (for calculations, see http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/digital-camera-sensor-size.htm

You can do the same in reverse (i.e. make a real scene look like a model) by using an SLR with a very fast lens - e.g. 50mm f/1.2
