Award-winning loco headboard

As you may be aware, it was the Great Central Railway diesel gala at the weekend. 5305LA had a frustrating weekend as our feverish efforts over the preceding few weeks to have D6535 (31116) in traffic came to nothing - the loco failed with an electrical fault, which after many hours we failed to remedy, as it was about to leave Loughborough on its first train.

 

It was a difficult day for everyone (loco failures, someone taken ill on a train, signalling problems), but especially those who were offended by the sight of a very skilfully made BR-style headboard on the end of D123 (our other engine) which was in the shade whilst it was hauling trains.

 

After a frustrating weekend, we hope to have D6535 back in action very soon, and if someone digs deep, not only will they help us to achieve this, not only will they have a lovely piece of modern-day railwayana, but they will have the satisfaction that they have blessed the very heart of a well-known railway journalist.
