AMJ
Looking at the FR website it looks like it is going to be an interesting event over this weekend. I'll probably be there on at least one day as I have booked into a B&B in the area at Criccieth - look out for me in a black Middleton Railway 200 years of steam shirt. Just a shame there is virtually no public transport (b***s or trains) to Criccieth on an evening or I could have a session in Spooners! Statfold have lent the HC loco Fiji, being named on Friday by High Commissionaire @ PM and running some Pont Croesor shuttles. On Friday May 2nd, His Excellency Mr Solo Mara, High Commissioner for the Republic of Fiji Islands, will be naming a steam locomotive (Hudswell Clarke 972 of 1911) Fiji, reflecting its history when it worked in the sugar cane fields and mills of the Pacific Islands. "Our friends at the Statfold Barn Railway have repatriated and rebuilt the locomotive, now over 100 years old, and restored it to full working order. They are kindly making it available for use on the Welsh Highland Railway between Porthmadog and Caernarfon." The official naming ceremony will take place at Porthmadog Harbour Station at 1630, followed by a demonstration of the locomotive in action on a shuttle service to Pont Croesor and return at 1700. The loco will also head the shuttle trains leaving Porthmadog at 1500, 1545 and 1745. The WHHR also has a gala and the have borrowed the original Beyer-Garrett K1 from FR for the weekend. exet1095
You could walk... or a cab from Port to Criccieth is not too expensive. I will be there with the children, but not having a session in Spooner's. We are planning to have a railway day on Saturday and then go to the beach on Sunday.
