Putting the valve gear back together in n gauge

Recommended Posts

I'm part way through building a streamlined Duchess from a garish duchess and a langley kit

to fit the body over the cylinders you need to sand and file them (significantly) without damaging the motion

I noticed that one of the screws appeared to be holding the cylinders on so I un-screwed it and slid the cylinders off.

This has been great for re-shaping the cylinders to fit, however I now can't get them back on, nearly managed it, was just one part off being done and I twitched slightly, resulting in the whole lot sliding off again!

Anyone any suggestions on how to slide the cylinders back on?

Courtesy of another forum, ensuring the motion is set so one cylinder is as far forwards as possible while the other is as far backwards (the coronations had internal cylinders so they won't be fully forward / fully back) makes it easier

Careful running afterwards to ensure everything is lined up and hasn't popped out is advised (guess how I know)
