Caledonian
I'm reminded by an article in this months Model Rail that the Fairburn tanks used by the LMS (NCC) were known as Jeeps. Was this name ever applied to Fairburns over here?
pH
In the west of Scotland in the 1960s, I never heard them called anything other than 'Fairburns' or 'Fairburn tanks'. Apparently, some crews knew them as 'big pugs', but I think that was a general term applied to more than that one class - at least Wemyss Bay tanks before that and Standard Class 4 tanks at the same time.
