cheesysmith
I was just perusing the web, and I found photos of UPO hot pig iron wagons originally build for flows from frodingham steelworks being used on a flow from Rotherham to Trafford park. My question does anybody have dates of these trains and would they have run via the woodhead line? Depending on the answers I may need another wagon type for my EM1 to pull. Fat Controller
Trevor Mann's 'British Railways Unfitted and Vacuum-Fitted Wagons in Colour' shows B744730 at Trafford Park in August 1985, with a note saying the traffic had ceased 'during the previous year'. Apparently, they were loaded in both directions; east- west with ingots (not pig-iron) from Rotherham to Trafford Park, returning with scrap. The ingots were forged into railway wheels and axles. This traffic would almost certainly have passed via Tinsley and Woodhead until it shut.
