Hornby recruiting a researcher

I do wonder if having just one researcher is a bit silly, as one person may have a better understanding of the GWR (and it's constituents) and BR(W) and not as deep an understanding of current railway practice.

By having a small number of people with more focused interests, it may help make things that bit easier than one man trying to juggle all the information from, say, 1923 to 2013.

According to the ad it's a post in a team, which implies other researchers already in post. As I read it, the ideal person for the job wopuld have knowledge of and research skills relevant to the entire rail industry and the model railway market spanned by Hornby's international model railway brands; the assigned tasks could potentially encompass something that never got within several thousand miles of the UK, let alone one minor part of it. The last person you want is a narrow specialist: the all-rounder is the better bet to flexibly move from task to task, determined by which marketplace has the most cash to spend on models.
