coniston branch
Is there any issues I need to be aware about regarding the use of second hand plywood to build a baseboard ? Many Thanks in advance Phil
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted June 29, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 29, 2014 No particular reason why there should be any issues. A club that I was involved with built a large layout from secondhand plywood without any problems. The plywood in question had previously been subjected to moisture/steam (I won't go into details!). RMweb Premium Hippo Posted June 29, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 29, 2014 Hi Phil. There shouldn't be, depending on how holey it is..... I would also check for flatness and check it hasn't delaminated. Owen
RMweb Premium skipepsi Posted June 29, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 29, 2014 Erm depends what its first use was and how old it might be..... if it has been damp or used as shuttering then check it lies flat where you are building your layout after a week aclimatising. If it is contaminated with oil or other noxious substances forget it. If it has been in a house for a while check for woodworm or delamination, other than that it sounds an ok plan. The Dorset Wanderer
One of my layouts was built using discarded Air Conditioning packing from America- nine years on its still OK.
