RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted March 10, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 10, 2015 Thanks Dutch_Master, I'll try that and post 2 plans one with the top track and one without. Gary
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted March 16, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2015 Hailsham V3! I haven't drawn the baseboards on this one so you will need to use your imagination lol. On the right I imagine it being double track with a single track adapter for roughly the last foot. I have added the curve on the left and the straightened it out for the baseboard end. I have replaced all the point work in the sidings and yard with smaller radius. You will notice the plan has also lengthened so it is now 13ft long rather than the 10 it was originally. A link to the AnyRail plan Looking forward to your opinions, Gary
51E
Is this still at 2ft wide? I think you're going to struggle with that. I looked at modelling Hailsham a few years ago and worked out i could roughly fit it in a 8ft wide board, maybe 6ft at a push
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted March 16, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2015 It's 2.5ft wide. I did have to make some compromises such as the bricklayers siding but I think I've managed to get enough of the feel of Hailsham into it.
cromptonnut
Is that offset platforms? I've always like those

RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted March 21, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 21, 2015 Good news: The track for the layout has been ordered! Just need to sort the wood for the baseboards and I can start work. Bad news: The black car in the following image is the layouts transport (and mine as it is / was my car) Luckily everyone walked away from the crash. The only injury was some minor whiplash to my girlfriend. Courtesy car being sorted for me and hopefully it wont take long for his insurance to pay out so I can buy another one. Brighton-in-Buxton
I'm sorry that I have only just found your topic. I'm also modelling Hailsham in 00 but set in the 1880s not 1980s! You will find my web page at: http://early-lbscr.co.uk/hailsham/hailsham.htm I'll add a link to your blog when I next update. All the very best
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted May 30, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 30, 2015 Thanks very much. I was actually already aware of your web page and have read a lot of it as I have quite an interest in Victorian LB&SCR. I have been laid up with fluid on the knee and tonsillitis and though that time have drawn up some plans for scratch building some Stroudly and Craven era carriages. I have a terrier for the Stroudleys, think ill have to build no. 27 for the Cravens. Gary
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted June 20, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 20, 2015 Well another update about a lack of progress. As anyone reading the modular meet thread will know I have had to pull out due to the condition of my knee worsening meaning I can't drive to attend the meet. this has got to a point now that I can't really work on the layout so track laying has not finished yet. I have finally received an appointment to see the specialist which is on the 29th, He is going to asses the best coarse of action and see if my mild haemophilia is going to cause any problems so hopefully back to working on the layout soon. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted July 28, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2015 Hi Guys! I realise its been a while since I updated this topic, and there is good reason for that. Following from my knee problems I went to get the boards out for the first time in a while to work on them and take some photos about a week ago. Unfortunately whilst in storage the boards have had some damage and as I was never 100% happy with the boards I have decided to replace them with professionally built boards. This of coarse means that the Hailsham project is now on hold until the boards are built but it does mean it should last longer and be stronger. cromptonnut
We've all been there Haven't yet sorted a a date for our next modular meeting but am very much hoping that you'll be ready and willing this time How's the knee anyway?
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted July 29, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2015 I am hoping to be there too. The boards for the layout are being built by someone at Uckfield MRC where I am a member so hopefully wont be to long. The Knee is recovering. They thankfully decided against surgery for the time being and are hoping that physio can sort it. They believe it to be ligament damage. However if I leave my support off for more that 2 days though I am still in unbearable pain but at least I don't need surgery. Gary
cypherman
Hi There, Looks like you have had a similar idea to me just a different location.I look forwards to seeing how you progess as I plan to model Mablethorpe station and it's surrounds once we have moved house. I spent most of my childhood on this station watching the trains. Here is the track plan.
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted September 29, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 29, 2015 I like the look of Mablethorpe. Do you have a thread on here yet? If not can you let me know when you do, I would love to see progress on this. Gary

An update should be coming to this thread soon as the baseboards will be done. But I haven't been completely idle while waiting and have all the track electrics and some stock ready to go as soon as they arrive. I currently have SEEP point motors although I might change them for H & M's if I can manage to get enough. Gary
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted November 19, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 19, 2015 And then there were baseboards!!! Well I think the line above say it all but some pictures never hurt: So obviously the baseboards have now been colleected. Me and Seb the owner of the local model shop (Seen in the pics above) set them up in my half renovated boardroom and they are the best bit of workwork I have ever had the pleasure of owning and worth evey penny I paid for them. (If anyone want detail of the builder please PM me). So now the fun begins. All the track and cork is already at the office. The boards will be painted before tracklaying comences but now there is nothing to stop me. Thanks for looking. Gary
cromptonnut
Excellent - always good to see the 'bare boards' and see what develops from them. They look excellent and I can only dream of baseboards that are square and flat, let alone that well built. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted November 19, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 19, 2015 Thanks 'Nut, I could never build something that good. I'm so glad i went down the route of having them done professionally as the old ones i built were nowhere near the stadard of these. I'm looking forward to getting the track down and run some trains, my crompton might even be the first to run lol. Gary
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted December 22, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 22, 2015 Well it seems to have been onver a month since I picked up the new baseboards for Hailsham and I haven't updated! The good news is I have been working (as and when I can). The boards being at the office does limit my modelling time and the landlord decided to have the central heating done which kept me out of the board room for a week. However, the boards now have thier cork laid and track has started to go down. No pictures as the camera is sitting on the layout at the office and I am now on my christmas break so no more work on the layout until I am back on the 4th of January. In the meantime MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! Gary
