GWR88
Evening all, I'm considering buying a Union Mills Drummond 700 in southern black. Can anyone please tell me anything i can add to the model to make it look a tad better. It will be my first detailing project so i dont want to go at it with a razor saw! The southern e-group suggests adding clack valves, lamp irons, guard irons, add filler caps to sandboxes and vacuum pipes. Can anyone please tell me where these parts go, have photos of them and how i could build them. Thanks in advance, Lloyd
CarriageShed
Hi LoydDid you not receive any kind of response to your question at all, or did you manage to find the information elsewhere?Peter
GWR88
Hi Peter, No I didn't get a response at all nor could I find much on the internet so I gave up and never bought the model. Lloyd

GWR88
Thanks Ken but I'm working in N gauge, hence Union Mills. All the best, Lloyd
CarriageShed
Hi Lloyd Union Mills locos are great for detailing. I'm working on a T9 at the moment but the first one I did was the 700. I didn't go so far as hacking off handrails, but I did add lamp irons, vacuum pipes, hooks and chains (above the Rapido couplers), cab handrails and crew, a fall plate, real coal, shovels, etc, brass pipework, and a thick layer of dirt. Not sure how much of that you'll see in the photos but you'll find them about a third of the way down the page here:http://www.ngauge.historyfiles.co.uk/FeaturesNGauge/workbenchGrouping02.htm And there's another one in the first entry on the next page:http://www.ngauge.historyfiles.co.uk/FeaturesNGauge/workbenchGrouping03.htm I'd recommend giving it a go.
