Seems like they're made (primarily) from scribed acetate like material and filler! Working on the clear plastic with scribed lines allows for hand painting and flush glazing. I did have a go, but didn't have any luck replicating his technique! I've been toying with the idea of using a similar method to produce some Gresley steel panelled stock, looks like there might be some merit in this.
