Earl Bathurst
How long would the blue milk marketing board and red cws livery last in service. Would they still be seen in these liveries during the 1950s early 60s? Thank you Scott
RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted September 19, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 19, 2014 Hi Scott, A search on Paul Bartlett's wagon site will provide the information you need... http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/?q=Milk%20Tanks Thanks
ianwales
Hi Scott The little info I have is from an old Bradford Barton book, one caption states "Various pre-nationalisation tanks had colourful liveries, but, the BR period saw a general standard of silver tanks with small nameplates" and photo of one of the GW twin tanks which had the red co-op livry is photographed in 1970 with silver tanks, however, there is a photo of a blue MMB tank takenat Lampeter in1970. Hope this is of use Ian
chrisf
So that's what they were like underneath the crud! With only hazy first-hand memories I would say that in BR days by far the majority of milk tanks were so grimy that you could not tell what colour they were. Terry ecmr has captured the effect very well on his Earls Court layout. That's not the answer you wanted, is it? Chris
