webbcompound
I'm looking for info on pneumatic crossing barriers suitable for c1936, Chicago. Anyone know of any online plans or diagrams? Photos I have found tend to be at an angle which makes estimating size difficult. I'm aiming to model some in 3.5mm scale
shortliner
You might find something here http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Old+Crossing+Signals&FORM=IRBPRS&crslsl=0 or maybe here http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Railroad+Crossing+Arms&FORM=IRBPRS&crslsl=0 or you might need wig-wags http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Wig+Wag+Railroad&FORM=R5FD5&crslsl=0 and a quick search threw up this http://www.railroadsignals.us/xing/index.htm Have fun! webbcompound
Thanks for this Shortliner. Very interesting, but confirms my own failure to find early stuff as most of the pics are of post ww2 arms. The toy (*Lionel) ones appear to be close to the period pics I have, so may be a way forward as far as design goes. Wig-wags are interesting, but I think a diversion if my guess is correct that these appeared more on rural roads rather than urban situations where traffic on both rail and road was likely to be heavier. One option is to not have a crossing of course!
