DaveArkley
Im' toying with the idea of a layout based on Hawick. With a bit of trimming I think I can get a fairly good representation of the track plan which I'm basing on the map in Carlisle to Hawick by Darsley and Lovett. I've spent some time tracing out the tracks with a zoomed in picture of the track plan. But what I can't make out is where the crossover are between up and down. Logic suggests that there must be at least one, probably on the south of the Teviot and another somewhere beyond the turntable. Or am I missing one or more nearer the yard/shed/platform?. I'm particularly interested in how the carriage sidings are accessed from the Down and the goods yard from the Up. Can anyone shed some light please? AJCT
AFAIK there were trailing crossovers between Up and Down mains at both ends of the station - just south of the Teviot viaduct and north of the trailing connections from the Up sidings and Down bay. Have a look at this site for a 1955 signalling diagram for Hawick South - http://www.signalbox.org/diagrams.php?id=532 and these from RailScot - http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=38617 and http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=23609. But no doubt the Teri RMWebbers can give you even better gen.... Alasdair
DaveArkley
Thanks Alasdair that's really useful. I'm just working through the signalling diagram relating it to the track plan. Cheers Dave
