South Western Pottery

Recommended Posts

Among my hobbies is postcard collecting, something i started more than 50 years ago when cards could be obtained for a couple of pounds per bundle ! I have therefore a considerable collection relating to dorset. I model in n gauge and as I was born and brought up in Whitecliff, I and my friends used Blake Dean the woods and the footpaths in and around SW Pottery as our playground. While researching on the web, I came across a plea from Tim Hale on this site re-garding the branch from Parkstone Station to the pottery and beyond. Many times have I ridden on the footplate of "George Jennings" and helped to coal her in the slip at the side of Pottery Road. If Tim reads this blog and would care to E Mail me I am sure I can give him useful info including the curious cross-over where the narrow gauge clay line crossed the branch having left the last known pit to be excavated. These side tipper trucks were pulled by 1st World War Ruston engines and were filled by a steam shovel.
