D5541
Evening :-) Apologies if this has been asked before but... I model in OO standard gauge normally, am I right in thinking that if I wanted to represent a 2ft gauge railway in 4mm/ft scale it's OO-9 im looking for? As a follow up, does anyone do a kit of the Funkey diesel Vale of Ffestiniog in that scale? Cheers Dan :-)
RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted November 18, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 18, 2014 Dan: OO-9 is 2'3" gauge in 4mm scale. That's closer than OO is to standard gauge. If you don't plan to scratchbuild all your chassis, that's how to do it.
TonyMay
Actually it depends on how you measure it. OO is 21/3 mm too narrow for standard gauge which scales to 7 inches. OO9 is 1 mm too wide for 2 foot gauge, which scales to 3 inches. So, yes 21/3 mm > 1mm But by percentages of the gauge, OO9 is 12.5% too wide compared to what it should be. By the same token however, OO is only 87.6% of what it should be - in other words, 12.4 % too narrow. Although I've never met an engineer who would quibble very much about 0.1% diffference. Hobby
Ok, lets just say that viewed head-on the gauge difference is less visible in 009 than it is in 00 SG!
