steveNCB7754
Yes, I know they were devised for use on Cornish mineral lines, but does that make them suitable for colliery railway use? I only ask, as I need several outside cylindered 0-6-0 saddle tanks for my fictitious Welsh colliery layout. Currently, kit building is the only realistic option, but an RTR one would be a godsend. Maybe, in the fullness of time, those promised industrial types will include just what I need, in the meantime - any prototypical reason why Kernow's proposed 1361 Class GWR 0-6-0 saddle tank could/would not have been used for such work? RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted November 23, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2014 Apart from never hearing of it happening there's no reason at all because they were powerful and pretty compact little shunting engines - and the GWr did hire out locos to private companies connecting to its network. edcayton
Certainly some pannier tanks ended up in collieries. I'm sure someone will give chapter and verse about which ones! Ed
Poor Old Bruce
I've been thinking about that sort of thing myself and wondering what one would look like with altered cab roof profile and different (non GWR) boiler mountings.
