Bachmann Dynamis Issue

Hello all,

I plugged my Dynamis in to my test loop today, and it worked initially but basically it seemed to switch off after a few shorting notices. At the moment when I plug it in there are no lights at all on the box - so obviously no power to the tracks or connection to the controller.

Any thoughts? Is it common for Dynamis to go bang with a short on the tracks?

Thanks

Hi James,

I hate to upset you but it's certainly common to read 'Dynamis problem' threads.

Sadly, the only solution I know to Dynamis issues is to bin it and buy something a little more robust.

Lenz ,Digitrax, NCE, ESU take your pick.

John

My dad has the prod-squared which I did like - but I prefer the dynamis overall but if it can't deal with shorts in the track then that seems like a pretty fatal flaw, and one that I wasn't aware of. I've already wasted 25 pounds buying and selling the terrible e link so not sure I can face binning another £70!

James,

I've had a dynamis since they came out and whilst it has its flaws, dealing with shorts is not one of them. In fact the short circuit protection is very sensitive on dynamis and I have used it many many times during my latest layout construction and testing... I've actually just switched across to nce from dynamis but only due to sighting issues with the infrared despite having three sensors around the layout. Interestingly the nce short circuit protection seems less sophisticated and as such I've wired in additional protection which I never needed with dynamis!

Your problem sounds like the unit has failed for some other reason -possibly faulty? Might be an issue with the power supply - long shot maybe but have you checked the fuse?

If you do give up with dynamis, consider the advice on here and go for something from one of the dcc manufacturers rather than a model railway manufacturer that also does dcc. There are some decent entry level systems for not much more than eg dynamis that can be expanded or updated over time.

If persisting with dynamis I do have a spare unit that I will be trying to sell in due course. I have the full Probox setup which may not be of interest but the normal set would also be available cheaply - my handset is occasionally flaky (one of the well documented issues with dynamis) such that would sell for a modest sum but if your handset ok but need new box or power supply them could be a n option. PM me if this would be of interest?

Bachmann.

E-Z Command from Lenz, Dynamis from ESU. Both respected DCC specialist manufacturers.

Roco.

MultiMaus and MultiMaus Pro developed from Lenz.

Their Z21 system is at the cutting edge of new DCC developments.

Dynamis may be may be manufactured by ESU but possibly to Bachman specifications.

I have and swear by Lenz and ESU ECoS but put the Dynamis in same boat as Hornby DCC and would not entertain either of them.

Yes, I know there are those that swear by B & H DCC  and the very best to them but I I am sure there are many more that swear at them.

And now back to my fox hole.

 Cheers

  Ian

Can't disagree but I would still recommend a Lenz set over EZ command; ESU over Dynamis. (Though price points are hardly comparable on latter). My post wasn't totally clear for which I apologise - I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with these systems, just that a they are limited in their capabilities and can't be upgraded later (dynamis with probox is still limited as I've found out). As such my general recommendation would be to go for a system that can be added to later which I believe the likes of digitrax, nce and Lenz offer. I can't comment on roco products at all - these may be the exception and i had forgotten them when I posted.

Hello everyone, thanks for your replies.

I think that's the thing with the Prod2 - you get lifetime warranty, which I'm guessing the dynamis does not have - though I will email to see if they are willing to take a look.

The fuse is built into the transformer, but nevertheless I tried an alternative power cord and it didn't work still. I'll also send a PM about the spare box, ta.
