balders
Hi, and a merry Christmas to you all. Just a quick one regarding class 14's. I know that they were all vacuum brake fitted from new but today I noted at least 9520, 23 and 24 appear to have the addition of air pipes on the buffer beams. Was this an industrial retro-fit for these examples, or a preservation one following (for arguments sake) re-engine as I know one of these examples runs a Rolls Royce unit? An odd one for a Christmas evening! Thanks! Guy
RMweb Gold russ p Posted December 25, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 25, 2014 In BR service all were vacuum braked, some have been dual braked in presavation and I think the one which worked at grangemouth refinery was possibly air brake only
balders
Thanks Russ! They've certainly proved their worth since their unbelievably short BR career so I suppose it made some financial sense to invest in the modification. 25901
D9531 is now dual braked at Bury. This was fitted during it's last overhaul. D9502/37 may get fitted in the long term This link shows D9531 with air pipes parked next to D9555 which is vac only https://www.flickr.com/photos/lereddog/14776736404/in/photostream/
