Hardwiring a Bachmann Jinty - progress of a DCC novice

Recommended Posts

I've just hard wired my first loco and am feeling pretty pleased about it! If I can do this so can anyone! The loco is a Bachmann Jinty, none DCC, I used a Hornby 8 pin decoder, if you remove the suppression board and upright plate (both screw in) it's easy to leave space for the decoder. The Hornby decoder instructions were invaluable to identify the right wires. My soldering ability isn't great, but it worked first time. So anyone who has consigned a none DCC favourite loco to a draw, go on give it a go! Only snag now is I have two more Jinties and a host of other locos to go! Happy New Year everyone.

Well done Mike

What's the saying....."nothing ventured etc etc"

Nice to have a success early on, you'll be putting sound in the JINTY next.

Sound sounds like a real challenge, though I've seen an ad for a model shop selling the half cab with sound. Is sound worth having, I'm unconvinced when hearing it at exhibitions, but maybe this is about room size and acoustics.

Mike,

Sound has come on a long way of late, especially if you hear some of the examples done by some specialists on here.

I dont have a steam example yet........but do have about 5 diesel examples......it does add a very different dimension.
