br2975
Came across this whilst scanning a number of monochrome prints I took during the mid-1970s. . Controlled by North East Jct. Signal Box in Cardiff's dockland, the lines lead to Marshalling Sidings, what now remains is Tidal Sidings. . GKN Tremorfa Works can be seen in the background, and the floodlights for 'Tidal'. To the left were the Dingle Sidings one time storage for iron ore bound for the GKN Dowlais (later BSC East Moors) Works. . Brian R
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted February 22, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 22, 2015 Definitely an unusual one Brian - it looks like it was mounted on top of a gantry leg, albeit a taller one than usual, and was presumably done for sighting reasons. br2975
And turning to my right a bit, there was the 'box - 'North East Junction' - still in use at the time. (not to be confused with 'South East Jct.' which was about 400 yards away). . To elaborate on my previous post - Tidal & Marshalling Sidings would be reached by going to the right, and to the left the lines ran to Stonefield Jct (near the former Cardiff East Dock shed) also the Roath Dock - where by this time, the mid 70s, a handful of shunters would stable alongside the GKN Castle Works.
