Six stamps depicting Hornby model trains will be issued by Jersey Post on 24 March 2015 as part of this year’s Europa issue ‘Traditional Toys’. Jersey Post has worked closely with design agency True North and Hornby Hobbies Ltd to produce the stamps, which feature actual artwork used to produce Hornby train set boxes.

Melanie Gouzinis, Head of Philatelic at Jersey Post, comments: ‘The model train is one of the most loved and most enduring toys of all time and, undoubtedly, the most widely recognised brand of model railway is Hornby. We were delighted to collaborate with Hornby and the stamps are sure to bring back fond memories for adults, whilst also appealing to a younger audience.’

The stamp issue falls under this year’s Europa theme as Mrs Gouzinis explains: ‘Every year, European Postal Administrations are given a stamp issue title to interpret by PostEurop, the trade association that has been representing European public postal operators since 1993. It’s always interesting to see how postal administrations interpret the title and we’re really pleased with how our train set stamps have turned out.’

The trains depicted on the six stamps are the British Pullman, the GWR Passenger Freight, the Flying Scotsman, the Cornishman, the Mixed Freight train and the Caledonian Belle and the Europa logo appears on both the 62 pence and 82 pence stamps.

The stamps will be available to buy from all branches of Jersey Post from 24 March 2015. Philatelic stamp products such as stamp sets, First Day Covers and Presentation Packs will be available from the main post office at Broad Street. St Helier, Jersey on issue day and can be ordered now at www.jerseystamps.com or by phoning the Jersey Philatelic Bureau on: 00 44 (0)1534 616320.
