Blog - St Catherine Street

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys (and girls!)

I've just had the first running session on my new layout I've called St Catherine Street, which I planned three days ago at work in about five minutes in my day dreams, wrote them down and shoved the plan in my pocket and went out and bought the plywood!

It is to be a modern image urban scene, with a single line through, with a spur for a terminating passenger train with an island platform on the outside part of the scenic area (the side with the buffer stops), on the inside of the scenic area it is to be a small industrial area/dmu staging area (not sure what yet!)

Wouldn't mind some suggestions to be thrown my way either!

Thursday I built the baseboard and put the supports on for the street scene above the tracks, yesterday bought the set track small radium points for £1 each (bargain!) I laid the tracks - which I had spare from another project that was too big for me and today I wired up the underside so I'd get smooth running on the main running loop and off all the spurs! I have yet to link up the electrics/isolation area for the staging area/yard and the isolating section for the station area the long set of points is the only electrofrog (all I had left, this is on a tiny budget).

Next is to ballast the rear fiddle yard area and then finish the street scene bridge piece.

Decided to do some ballasting of the fiddle yard area (not the scenic side yet as need to construct a platform first and decide what to do with the two inside spurs...

I am also half way to finishing a pack of metcalfe retention walls.

Here's another update,

I have fitted the top of the tunnel section and lowered the supports to the correct height, added isolating sections to the inner front spurs of track and I have added an easier way to attach a controller.
